Our Artist in House
Homewood Hill gallery features
paintings by Australian (now NZ resident) artist Karen James.
Born in 1966, Karen James
moved to the Hawkesbury, N.S.W. Australia, with her family in 1980.
Throughout childhood she enjoyed taking photographs & drawing
- a passion which has been nurtured in her adult life by studying
painting, drawing and photography, with many different teachers.
For 15 years she worked in the art department of a large printing
company, leaving in mid 1997 to prepare for her first exhibition,
'Drawn from Life', with fellow Hawkesbury artist Jennifer Lloyd.
In January 1998, she embarked on a 6 month period of volunteer teaching
in Kenya, living with the local people in rural western Kenya and
painting in her spare time. This led to an exhibition back in Australia,
in March 1999, the theme 'A Journey through Kenya'. In January 2000,
Karen moved to New Zealand, to live in the pictuesque seaside town
of Kaikoura. Along with husband, Bob, they built "Homewood Hill
Gallery" to exhibit her work. Karen works in oils, pastels and acrylics
which are available for sale from the gallery.
